Our experience from cycling in France is limited to the southern coast, Lorraine and a few other places. Our general experience is that the lunch served is excellent, but you should come to the restaurant between 12 and 14, or you risk to get no lunch. We have tried that.
To be a cycling tourist in France is very nice. Prepare to say ‘bonjour’ every time you meet other cyclists. The quality of mapped bicycle paths may, however, vary a lot, from very good to very bad.
The scenery along Cote d’Azur is fantastic, from the Italian border to Saint Tropez. Later, we have preferred the coast from Montpellier to the Spanish border, where prices are more moderate.
Some tours under Longer Routes include biking days and overnight stays in France. Please remember travel insurance, use a helmet, lock your bicycles and keep your luggage safe.
